BBC Three is set to air as a regular tv channel, airing on the same frequency as CBeebies, claims a report in Broadcast.
According to the report, BBC Three will revert to being a regular tv channel, rather than existing only via BBC iPlayer, in a major u-turn from the corporation. The plans would see BBC Three airing on Freeview channel 202, which is also the home of Cbeebies.
Cbeebies would continue to close at 7pm, after which BBC Three programming would begin.
New Director General Tim Davie alluded to the change during his debut speech for the BBC, in which he said “If we want to launch a new offer, and we will consider our options, it would need to use the current space”.
The likes of Drag Race UK, Make Me Famous and Normal People have helped boost BBC Three ratings significantly in the last twelve months, helping BBC iPlayer to reach record numbers.
