All Creatures Great and Small has proved a massive hit with over 3 million of us settling down on Tuesday nights (or Sunday’s for the repeat) for a good old bit of escapism.
But who are the cast in All Creatures Great and Small? Where is it filmed? And are there going to be more episodes? Here’s all you need to know…
What is it about?
All Creatures Great and Small is based on the classic novels, which tell the story of real life vey James Herriot, an upcoming vet who leaves his home in Glasgow for a new life in the Yorkshire Dales.
Who are the cast?
James Herriot is played by newcomer Nicholas Ralph (hear his interview with The Version here). He’s joined by Samuel West who plays Siegfried Farnon, the bossy Vet who takes James under his wing. Helen Alderson, who catches James’s eye is played by Rachel Denton and the reliable housekeeper Mrs Hall is played by Anna Madeley.
Joining the main cast members are guests Callum Woodhouse, Alexis Platt, Matthew Lewis, Maimie McCoy and Nigel Havers. Two episodes feature the late Dame Diana Rigg.
Where was it filmed?
The series, which was shot in the Yorkshire Dales, and the town of Grassington serves as the fictional town of Darrowby. Other locations in Yorkshire include Malham Lings, a beauty spot located in the Malham Cove area.
How many episodes are there?
There are 5 episodes and a Christmas special (hear Nicholas Ralph discussing this in our interview, below).
Will there be a season 2?
Yes, there will be a second series on Channel 5, but Nicholas Ralph confirmed to us that the filming dates are still to be confirmed. That said, it is very likely season 2 will air around the same time next year.
