Radio 1 DJ Danny Howard is to take dance music to primetime for the first time in the station’s history.
In a first for the station, the DJ will host a fully-fledged dance and house music show in a mainstream slot – 8pm, every Friday.
In response to the schedule change, Danny told his social media followers “Although I currently start at 9, that one hour shift to 8 is huge, this is now truly prime time specialist radio and I feel like it’s everything I’ve been working towards”.
“From hosting the revived Dance Anthems in 2012 then moving across to the legendary Friday night line-up alongside Annie & Pete in 2017 to focus more on growing my profile as a tastemaker, it’s always been a dream to broadcast in this slot, playing the best dance & electronic music the world has to offer to a global audience, discover the most exciting new music I can get my hands on and champion the next generation of artists I’m ready more than ever to take it to the next level & I’m absolutely buzzing right now so get ready for party vibes, incredible new talent and back to back amazing music for two whole hours every damn week”.
Danny’s new show is part of a number of significant schedule changes at Radio 1, which have seen the Breakfast show move to a later slot and Annie Mac’s evening show move forward to 6pm.
