We’ve all been there. Getting to the end of a busy day, wondering what to cook.
Whether you live on your own, with children, with elderly parents or with mates, the day to day challenge of thinking up what to cook and then finding all the right ingredients to make it just feels like another piece of admin you could do without, right?
Introducing Gousto, the food boxes that will change your life.
At this point, we’re going to let you know that Gousto provided us with 4 x complimentary recipes on the agreement that we would review the experience. There was no agreement that we had to say anything positive. We’re making that clear now, because we’re about to rave about them and we want you to know that we’re not obliged to do so.
Why are they so good then? OK to explain how Gousto works, you let Gousto know the kind of meals you like, how often you’d like them and for how many people – and they deliver a box to you with exactly the ingredients you need to cook the recipes yourself. There is no ongoing subscription if you don’t want one, you can just sign up as a one off, or you can order it as often as you like.
It would be helpful if we tell you what the pricing is early on as well, because you’ll come to see just what good value it is.
2 recipes costs £24.99, 3 recipes costs £29.99 and 4 recipes cost £34.99. That’s for two people. For four people the pricing is 2 recipes for £31.75, 3 recipes cost £42.75 and 4 recipes will cost you £47.75. Right now, there are loads of 30% and 50% voucher codes around as well, making it really exceptional value.
Now you know how it works and what it costs, here’s our experience of it….
We chose the 4 meals option, for 4 people, because we have two young children in our household. You can, when you order, choose exactly what meals you would like, but we left it up to the gods and asked Gousto to send us a good range, which they did.
We didn’t cook all of the meals for the kids, which meant us two adults got double portions – even better value!
On day one, we cooked Chunky Mixed Veg Stew with Goats Cheese. This is one of Joe Wicks’s Gousto recipes. As promised, we were sent just the right ingredients which included soft goats cheese, pumpkin seeds, balsamic video, basil… literally everything needed for the recipe. Gousto provide a recipe card with just eight very simple steps to follow. It took a maximum of 20 minutes to cook and it tasted fantastic. Really hearty and bursting with flavour. We were so full after it, and as mentioned, we didn’t cook this one for the children which meant there was enough for us to have it two days running. Bosch!
On day two, we cooked Feel Good Fish N Chips with Peas. I was a little dubious on what this portion would be like but again it did not disappoint, it was HUGE. The fish, in a panko breadcrumb was just amazing and the home cut chips were nostalgic, tasty and came out perfectly cooked. Add to that a mountain of peas and carrots and a really decent mayonnaise sachet, courtesy of Stokes which is a great brand which you’ll no doubt see in your local gastro pub. This really felt like a gastro pub meal actually, absolute comfort on a plate and really, really tasty. Easy to cook too, taking about thirty minutes. Only us adults ate this, which again meant we had enough for the next day.
Our third recipe was a 10-Min Herby Beef Gnocchi Bolognese. This was just exceptional! It only took 10 minutes for us to cook up the top quality beef mince with the other ingredients which included basil, tomato frito, roasted garlic paste and gnocchi. Our children did join in with this meal, in fact they loved helping to cook it as well as eat it. They were so happy and enthusiastic for it, and we loved the bold flavours. We ate this on a cold night and it was perfect.
Quick Shredded Hoisin Chicken Wraps rounded off the week in style. This was incredibly flavoursome with excellent quality chicken shredded and eaten in tortilla wraps with hoisin source, soy source and the other ingredients. It took us twenty minutes to cook it and with ease and it was just sublime.
Eating Gousto more than lived up to our expectations. It genuinely is like eating restaurant quality food at home and we didn’t mind at all having to cook it ourselves, mostly because the recipe cards make it so easy but also it puts the fun back into food – we cooked the recipes together and loved the excitement of seeing how they came out.
We wouldn’t hesitate to have Gousto again and cannot recommend it highly enough.
With everything we’ve all had to contend with in recent months, Gousto offers something very special for what really is a brilliant price. Visit gousto.co.uk for full details.
