Radio 1’s Danny Howard has shared his excitement for his new Friday night dance show.
Danny, who previously hosted at show in the 11pm slot, will move his show to primetime when the station launches a brand new schedule from September. It means his show will air at 8pm, putting the world’s biggest dance music at the heart of its evening output.
Danny tweeted “Although I currently start at 9, that one hour shift to 8 is huge, this is now truly prime time specialist radio and I feel like it’s everything I’ve been working towards. From hosting the revived Dance Anthems in 2012 then moving across to the legendary Friday night line-up alongside Annie & Pete in 2017 to focus more on growing my profile as a tastemaker, it’s always been a dream to broadcast in this slot, playing the best dance & electronic music the world has to offer to a global audience, discover the most exciting new music I can get my hands on and champion the next generation of artists. I’m ready more than ever to take it to the next level & I’m absolutely buzzing right now so get ready for party vibes, incredible new talent and back to back amazing”.
The new schedule is as follows:
6 – 8pm: Radio 1’s Dance Party with Annie Mac
8 – 10pm: Danny Howard
10pm – midnight: Pete Tong
Midnight – 2am: Radio 1’s Essential Mix
Radio 1’s other schedule changes include a later slot for breakfast, a second weekend show for Jordan North and an earlier time slot of 7pm for Annie Mac’s show. Hear the changes from 1st September 2020.
