Kristen Bell steps down from voicing mixed race character in Apple TV+ series Central Park

Kristen Bell has stepped down from her role in Apple TV+ animated comedy series Central Park.

In the series, made by the creators of Bob’s Burgers, Kristen voices Molly. Writing to fans via Instagram, Bell said: “Playing the character of Molly on Central Park shows a lack of awareness of my pervasive privilege. “Casting a mixed race character with a white actress undermines the specificity of the mixed race and Black American experience. It was wrong and we, on the Central Park team, are pledging to make it right. I am happy to relinquish this role to someone who can give a much more accurate portrayal and I will commit to learning, growing and doing my part for equality and inclusion”.

The show’s creator also posted a statement, confirming Kristen will continue working on the show, but will voice a different character;

Central Park also stars  Josh Gad, Tituss Burgess, Daveed Diggs and Kathryn Hahn.

You can watch it via Apple TV+ online or via the Apple TV+ app on a smart tv.
