Among the stunning islands that grace the shores of Malaysia, Pulau Tenggol, or Tenggol Island, stands out as one of the most unique and breathtaking destinations. Located in Dungun, Terengganu, Tenggol Island has recently emerged as a must-visit locale after its “discovery” just a few years ago. Once an uninhabited paradise, the island is now home to accommodations and facilities that welcome tourists eager to explore its natural beauty.
A Diver’s Paradise
Tenggol Island captivates visitors with its pristine coastline and an array of activities that highlight the spectacular marine and terrestrial flora and fauna. For those who love the sea, the island offers an unforgettable underwater adventure with over 20 dive sites to explore. Scuba diving enthusiasts can discover the rich treasures of Tenggol Island’s seabed, encountering soft corals, batfish, nudibranchs, the famous clownfish Nemo, and even haunting shipwrecks.
Snorkelling and Sunsets
Non-divers can also enjoy the marine wonders by snorkelling in the island’s shallow waters. This activity provides an opportunity to marvel at the vibrant sea corals and diverse marine life just beneath the surface. As the day draws to a close, visitors should not miss the breathtaking sunset that paints the sea in golden hues, with fishing boats returning to shore—a serene and picturesque end to an adventurous day.
How to Get There
Reaching Tenggol Island is an adventure in itself, accessible only by boat from the jetty of the Kuala Dungun Bridge. Given the limited number of boat trips, visitors should plan ahead and purchase boat tickets as part of lodging packages on the island. There are two transportation options: speed boats, which take about 45 minutes, and fishing boats, which take approximately 2 hours.
Where to Stay
As a newly developed tourist destination, Tenggol Island currently only offers two resort options for visitors: Tenggol Coral Beach Resort and Tenggol Island Beach Resort. These resorts provide comfortable and convenient lodging, ensuring that guests have a pleasant stay while they explore the island’s natural beauty.
